We have always produced recycled wood furniture, creating unique pieces tailored to our customers’ needs.

Every piece of furniture we create begins with a piece of wood that existed before us. Reclaimed beams from old barns in the valleys of Cuneo, chestnut planks removed from century-old roofs and oak boards found along local waterways: these are the materials Brondello Erminio has used to produce custom-made furniture since 1929. We do not use virgin timber. We work exclusively with reclaimed wood sourced within a radius of less than 30 kilometres from our sawmill in Borgo San Dalmazzo, in the province of Cuneo.

The result is unique pieces by definition: no two pieces of furniture are identical, because no two pieces of wood are alike. The grain, knots and marks left by time and previous use become design elements rather than flaws to be concealed.

How we process reclaimed wood for furniture

Before becoming a piece of furniture, every piece of reclaimed wood undergoes a rigorous process that we have been developing in-house for decades. The wood is first cleaned and graded, then placed in our drying kilns, where it undergoes an exclusive heat-treatment process. This treatment eliminates pests, mould and other biological agents found in old wood, making it stable and safe for use in residential interiors.

After drying, each piece of wood is assessed individually. Pieces intended for humid environments — vanity tops, bathroom furniture, outdoor furniture and terrace tables — receive waterproofing treatments that protect the wood without altering its raw appearance. The result is a material that still looks aged, rough and imperfect, while its structure has become waterproof and washable.

The surface finish is applied by hand, using hand tools and abrasive stones. No CNC routers and no uniform industrial finishes. The aim is to achieve what the owner of Le Club 55 in Saint-Tropez — one of our most recent clients — described as “non-planar flatness”: a perfectly imperfect design in which the mark of the craftsman’s hand becomes part of the project.

Custom-made wooden furniture: what we produce

Our reclaimed wood furniture production includes tables, vanity tops, bathroom furniture, storage units, wall panelling, kitchen elements and pieces made to the specifications of the designer or end customer. We work with both private customers and clients in the contract and hospitality sectors.

Our recent projects include the entire wooden structure of Le Club 55 in Ramatuelle, Saint-Tropez, including its reception area, bar, changing rooms and terrace. The structure is assembled and dismantled every summer and transported across the beach using animal-drawn vehicles. Another project is our branded corner on the Home & Living floor of GreenPea Turin, Europe’s first green retail park, where our flooring and furniture form a permanent part of the exhibition.

Every project begins with a site inspection or a direct consultation: we do not manufacture from a catalogue. Dimensions, wood species, treatments and finishes are defined together with the customer according to the intended environment, expected intensity of use and architectural style.

We are PEFC-certified, the leading international certification for responsible forest management. The certification covers the entire supply chain, from the origin of the wood to its processing, and is periodically verified by an accredited independent body.

Frequently asked questions

Is reclaimed wood furniture suitable for bathrooms and kitchens?
Yes, provided that the wood has been treated correctly. Pieces intended for humid environments are waterproofed using our dedicated treatment, which makes the wood resistant to water and grease without altering its natural appearance.

How long does it take to produce a custom-made piece of furniture?
Production times vary according to the complexity of the project and the availability of the required wood. For individual pieces — such as tables, vanity tops and storage units — the complete process, from selecting the wood to delivery, generally takes between four and eight weeks.

Can I specify the wood species?
We work primarily with native species from the valleys of Cuneo: chestnut, oak, walnut, larch and Norway spruce. Availability depends on the reclaimed material held in our warehouse at the time of the project. If a specific species is required, we recommend contacting us in advance.
